The United States was slow adopting the machine method of manufacture. They had little money with to buy the machinery and put up the buildings to house all of the new machinery. When the Napoleonic war and the War of 1812 upset came and made English products difficult to obtain. So more American investors began to build factories.As the nation expanded, the almost unlimited supply materials and
the constantly increasing number of customers brought growth of industry.
Postwar growth and a vast supply of immigrant factory workers made the United
States a leading industrial nation. During the early part of the Industrial
Revolution workers had no way of protecting themselves from long hours, low
wages, and loss of jobs. Beginning in 1813, some states passed laws regulating
child labor. Some of the machines that they had invented was the the sewing machine, that was made in 1851 by Isaac Singer. Another machine that was made was the steamboat made by John Finch.
